Managing Your Household Budget May Keep You Out of Bankruptcy

Sticking to budget is not easy for anyone. Even the rich and famous turn to business managers to help them handle their budgets and avoid going into debt.  A business manager’s job is to provide support in curbing spending impulses. For young celebrities whose wealth may have come all of a sudden, a business manager’s input can be an invaluable tool.  On any given day, you can read about celebrities going on shopping excursions, extravagant travels or generally mismanaging their wealth. Ultimately their habits lead to financial ruin unless there is intervention.

The not-so rich and not-so famous can benefit from the wisdom espoused from business managers. If you are having financial difficulties and need a plan to get out of debt or avoid filing bankruptcy, budgeting may be part of the solution. The first step is to create a budget.  After you’ve created your budget, the hard part is to follow it.  This can be difficult if you owe more than you earn.

5 Important Steps

Follow these five steps to stay on track with your budget and avoid bankruptcy:

  1. Make paying off your bills your priority — Religiously follow your budget to secure your financial future.
  2. Make cash payments —Stop using your credit cards – Pay with cash or a debit card to make sure you don’t overextend yourself.
  3. Make timely payments A single late payment can upset your entire budget. In addition, most credit card companies charge late fees and increase your interest rate if you pay late.
  4. Make preparations for emergenciesAccidents, illnesses and other emergencies happen.  Keep a credit card open for this purpose.
  5. Make an appointment—A qualified debt relief lawyer to negotiate your debt.  Unlike debt consolidation, debt negotiation does not involve using your assets, specifically your home, as collateral to pay off unsecured consumer debts.  A successful debt negotiation can reduce the amount you owe to your creditors.
